Whether working out is something you love and look forward to or a total chore – it’s always a good idea to maximize the time you spend on your workout. You don’t want to simply go through the motions; that’s a waste of your time and energy. Follow these five tips to get the most out of your workout time. It doesn’t matter if you’re training for a marathon or simply trying to maintain physical activity. These tips work for every level and type of exercise.
Drink Enough Water
For it to perform at peak levels, you need to keep your body hydrated. Drink water before, during, and after your workout. When you sweat and push your muscles to their limits, you deplete a lot of the hydration in your system. You have to continue replacing those fluids so you don’t get dehydrated. That will only cause fatigue and other unpleasant symptoms like headaches and other pain.
You’ll get frustrated easily if you run out of time to workout. Carve out part of your day and schedule your workout time consistently. If you’re a morning person, get the workout done first thing after waking up. If you like to wrap up your day with a little me-time that includes exercise, leave time in the evening for a workout. You know your schedule and your habits. Make sure you leave yourself enough time to workout without feeling rushed, and stick to your workout schedule once you have it established.
Shake It Up
Even if you love exercising, doing the same thing day in and day out can get boring. Give yourself some variety. You’ll have more fun with your workouts when you’re doing something a little different every day. When running is normally your thing, spend one or two days a week doing yoga. If you like to lift weights at the gym, take a class once in a while or go for a bike ride.
Grab a Friend
Working out with a partner can have excellent physical and emotional benefits. You’ll motivate each other and hold one another accountable. It also helps to pass the time. You may not notice the burning muscles or the shortness of breath when you have someone to talk to. Pick someone who is supportive, fun, and willing to embrace the same physical fitness goals as you.
Pay Attention to Nutrition
The best way to increase what you accomplish with your workout is to supplement that exercise with a great nutrition plan. You need to eat enough calories to provide your body with energy, but not so much that you undo any of the positives with additional body fat and weight. Choose foods that are natural, high in protein, and low in sugar and added fat. You know what to do; lean chicken, fish, and eggs are good while hot dogs, fast food burgers, and frozen microwaveable foods are bad. Fill up on fresh fruits and veggies and keep your carbs limited to whole grains.
These five tips will help you maximize your workout and achieve better results. You’ll stay dedicated and motivated, grow lean muscle, and maintain your weight. If you’ve hit a plateau or you’re not sure how to jumpstart a slow fitness plan, try one or all of these ideas.
